Why Pilates Works for everyone!
When I was first introduced to Pilates in 2006, I observed that the vast majority of people in the Pilates studio were female. Based on that observation, I concluded that it was an exercise regime best suited for women. I know that unfortunately is what a lot of men might think.
I have now practiced Pilates close to 16 years and in 2014 I got my instructor certification for the first time. I have to say that my husband has taken as many of my classes and he mentioned that Pilates has really helped his posture, back issues and core strengh. He is hooked and he takes Pilates classes 3 times a week religiously. This is not only my husband saying this, but several men who are now taking Pilates classes as well. Pilates is an ideal total body workout that will always allow you to reach your exercise goals, and make you feel good with your entire body as well.
For example, when you’re experiencing back issues, most doctors recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, as one wrong move can make the problem much, much worse. This means forms of exercise such as jogging, weight lifting, and traditional aerobics should be avoided while you recover. Pilates however, is different. Pilates is your recovery and maintenance exercise since it keeps you moving and in shape while you do not strain yourself.
The significant changes of Pilates exercise regimen is the following:
Stronger Body
My whole body is stronger than it has ever been. For many years when working in Marketing, I had attended the gym where my workout was a mixture of cardio and weights. After I started with Pilates, I saw increased strength throughout my body, and I feel more energized/happy.
Fewer Injuries
In the past, I found that you can easily tweak muscles by using heavy weights or performing harsh exercise or movements. Therefore, I stuck with Pilates and Yoga. Pilates has exercised my entire body challenging my balance, and given me the confidence that I can safely move whatever way I like. This confidence has helped me experience much greater flexibility and a well balance body.
Reduced Pain and stronger body
One of the main focuses of Pilates is to strengthen your deep abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. These are the places that provide back support. A Pilates program will build core strength, rebalance chronically stressed musculature and restore vital circulation – all reasons why people with back pain find relief!.
Developed Neglected Muscle Groups
When I started Pilates, I discovered muscle groups I did not know even existed! These muscle groups were rarely used during my daily life and at the gym. I suspect that a lot of those muscles that we normally tweak are often part of these neglected muscle groups.
Improved Posture, Tension and mood
Pilates has helped me to adopt a better posture. How that has happened is part of the magic of Pilates. Some of the results I have felt are stronger core and back, less joint pain- better flexibility, improved breathing - less tension, feel tall and in a much better mood.
Feeling More Confident
Pilates is for everyone and I encourage men to join women in the amazing world of Pilates.
